Frequently asked questions
When do I need VTT instead of SRT?
VTT (WebVTT) is the native subtitle format for HTML5 video players — if you are embedding video on your own website or in a web app, browsers expect .vtt. SRT is better for YouTube uploads, video editors, and course platforms.
Will my subtitle timings change during conversion?
No. Every timestamp is preserved exactly — the converter adds the WEBVTT header and swaps comma separators for dots. Cue order and millisecond precision stay identical.
What happens to the cue numbers?
They are dropped, and that is fine: cue identifiers are optional in WebVTT, so the output is still 100% valid. Your text and timings pass through untouched.
My file is already .vtt — what happens if I convert it?
The tool detects VTT-style timings and still converts it (harmless — you get a clean, valid .vtt back), and it tells you the input already looked like VTT so there are no surprises.
Is there a file size limit?
No. Conversion is instant text processing that runs entirely in your browser, so even a full movie-length subtitle file converts in a fraction of a second.
Does my subtitle file leave my device?
No. The conversion happens 100% in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server, and nothing is stored.
