How does the silence detection work?
Your video’s audio is decoded in your browser and its loudness is measured moment by moment. Anything quieter than the threshold you set (default −40 dB) for longer than the minimum duration counts as silence. Those gaps are highlighted on the waveform before you cut anything.
What silence threshold should I use?
Start with the default −40 dB: it catches dead air and long pauses in speech while leaving normal talking untouched. Use −50 dB for an aggressive cleanup of a quiet recording, or −30 dB for a light touch that only removes obvious gaps.
Will removing silence reduce my video quality?
Cutting segments requires re-encoding, so the tool re-exports with H.264 at high quality (CRF 23) and 128 kbps AAC audio — visually identical for most footage. The original file on your device is never touched.
Does my video leave my device?
No. Everything happens in your browser: the analysis, the waveform and the cutting. The only download is the video engine itself (ffmpeg.wasm, an open-source build loaded unmodified from a CDN) the first time you process a file. Your footage is never uploaded anywhere.
